Wildfire Preparedness Workshop for Farmers and Ranchers 

Farmers and ranchers are invited to attend this two-part workshop series, presented by Climate & Agriculture Initiative BC, which will highlight potential wildfire risks to agricultural operations and the measures producers can take to prepare for and mitigate those risks.

The lunchtime sessions will also cover key content in the Farm/Ranch Wildfire Guide and Workbook. Attendees are encouraged to download and read these resources prior to the workshop. 

Both sessions are highly recommended (and for convenience you will be automatically registered in both), but we welcome you to register even if you are only able attend one of the sessions.

Part A

Date: Tuesday, April 20
Time: 12 pm - 1:30 pm

Part A of the workshop will cover:
-Why a farm/ranch wildfire plan is important
-Understanding wildfire threat and impacts
-Agency and producer roles during a wildfire
-An introduction to resources available for planning and preparation
-Steps to create your custom Farm/Ranch Wildfire Plan, including developing operational maps for planning and communication and inventories for livestock, response equipment and resources and water sources



Part B

Date: Tuesday, April 27
Time: 12 pm - 1:30 pm

Part B of the workshop will cover:
-Key considerations for risk reduction on agricultural properties, such as reducing combustibles, using fire resistant materials, and planning for sprinkler protection, including best practices unique to agriculture
-Livestock protection planning
-Employee and visitor evacuation planning, including for operations with multiple properties, seasonal workers and agritourism
-Safety and legal considerations when burning
-Insurance considerations and damage assessment and recovery after a wildfire

Accelerating Manufacturing Scale-Up Grant program

The Accelerating Manufacturing Scale-Up Grant program is part of StrongerBC, BC‘s economic recovery plan. The program opens to proposals April 15, 2021.

The goal of this program is to support small and medium-sized businesses in British Columbia to accelerate innovative capacity in the manufacturing sector, strengthen critical provincial supply chains, and create new, sustainable economic opportunities for businesses.

Agritech Concierge Program

The Agritech Concierge program, funded by the Province of B.C., provides contact with a team of skilled professionals. It supports agritech businesses to grow, diversify, access new markets and attract investment opportunities.

B.C.-based technology or agritech companies, agricultural producers, agri-food companies, and companies intending to establish operations in B.C. are eligible to access the Agritech Concierge program.

The Agritech Concierge program is open to high-growth potential companies that meet the eligibility criteria.

All companies interested in growing their agritech business or locating in B.C. are encouraged to contact the Agritech Concierge.

 

 

 

Circuit Breaker Business Relief Grant

The Circuit Breaker Business Relief Grant, part of B.C.'s Economic Recovery Plan, provides fully funded grants to hospitality and fitness businesses impacted by the March 30, 2021 Provincial Health Officer (PHO) orders.

Grants of $1,000 to $10,000 are available to hospitality and fitness businesses impacted by the March 30, 2021 PHO orders on gatherings and events and liquor and food serving premises.

Apply now! Grants are available until June 4, 2021 or until funds are fully expended, whichever comes first.

B.C. Tree Fruit Industry Stabilization

The BC Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries is leading an effort to help stabilize B.C.‘s tree fruit industry. The Ministry‘s plan is comprehensive. To be successful, robust industry participation is essential and the Ministry wants to engage a variety of industry participants, including associations and organizations, growers, packers, and certain representative groups, such as young growers and horticulturists, etc.  The project will analyze the current circumstances and opportunities to develop a plan for the future of the sector.  The project will consider a variety of factors, such as labour, innovation, extension services, and access to new varieties.

To support involvement, engagement sessions will be held at convenient times, and sessions will be available in English and Punjabi.
